Anticipation-Great Egret

© AnnHoffpauir
I think this is such a stately looking bird, the great egret.  They always look so pristine, must be from all that preening.  The male and female each take care of the nest and when the eggs hatch, they both that care of the food too.  The egret and the cypress tree is taken from a photo I took in a nature garden here in south Texas.  The gardens are named Shangri La.  It is well known so, if you get a chance to visit there and want to take photos of Egrets, Ibis, Great blue Heron, Cormorants, Swallow tailed Kites and several other species of birds, check out their website.  This painting is a watercolor done on 3oo# paper.  Please take a look at my website for more wildlife paintings http://www.ArtworkbyAnn.com

Flamingos

The zoo is a wonderful place to get reference material for wildlife of all kinds.  These flamingos are at the Houston Zoo.  I like to go there at different times of the year.  The habitat changes and so do the animals for the coming seasons.  I really liked these flamingos with their contrasting colors of the background and reflecting light from the water.  For more of my wildlife paintings of song birds or waterbirds please visit my website

Roseate Spoonbills by Ann Hoffpauir

                                                    Roseate Spoonbills

The Roseate Spoonbill is a very colorful bird.  Their unusual bill gives it its name.  They use their bill to scoop or spoon up small fish and whatever else they can catch.  These spoonbills were painted from photos taken while staying in Rockport, Texas.

This area in Texas is a migratory gateway for several species of birds.  It’s a wonderful area for bird, wildlife artists and photographers.

These spoonbills are painted on 140lb. watercolor paper.  The size is 5x71/2.

The price is $75.00.  Thank you for viewing my art.

White Pelicans II

                                                           White Pelicans II

These white pelicans were painted from the photos I’d taken in Rockport, Tx.  It is the second painting of these pelicans.  As the sunlight changed and the pelicans swam in the water, I tried to capture those fleeting moments in my painting.  In this painting the colors are much warmer.  How quickly the moving sunlight can change things.

These white pelicans are painted on 300 lb. watercolor paper.  The price is $75.00

Chipping Sparrow by Ann Hoffpauir

© Ann Hoffpauir
I had to look up this little bird to know what kind it was. When I first noticed it, I thought it was just another house sparrow. As I worked in my yard though, it didn't fly away as readily as house sparrows do. I thought
"what the heck is wrong with this bird, is it sick, old or something"? The more I observed this bird I realized not only it wasn't a house sparrow, because it's character was somewhat timid, sweet and social. Later I had refilled a bird feeder and left it on my back porch for a few days. Well, the birds found it and they were probably thinking "the dang bird lady is never gonna hang the feeder up, so lets eat here ya"ll"! So...unnoticed to the birds, I took their picture from inside the window that was only about six feet from that feeder.
I had several different species of birds visit that feeder while it was on the porch. A lot of good close up photos too!
This painting is size 7x5 oil on canvas panel. It is available for $75.00. Thank you for viewing.
