Facing the Wind

                                                 Facing the Wind – Seagulls

This was painted on location recently while in Crystal Beach and Port Bolivar, TX. area with the Outdoor Painters Society.  I was in an area where the shrimp boats docked.  While I set up my art gear facing these pilings, a couple of shrimp boats came back in.  The seagulls, terns and egrets all came in to check out the smorgasbord of fish that was stirred up by the shrimp boats.  The pilings were nearby and the seagulls would land on them, and then take off again for another dive into the water.  Sometimes all the pilings had more than one bird on them.                                                                                                                       After the boats docked the men started sorting the fish and shrimp.  The egrets actually would light on the deck railing of the boat and get the morsels of fish and shrimp that are being culled.  That egret was smart.  Why go hunt and peck in shallow water when all it needs to do is wait for his “ship” to come in.

Behind the Lighthouse - Port Bolivar, TX.

Behind the Lighthouse – Port Bolivar, TX.

Behind the lighthouse was painted on location recently while in Port Bolivar, TX. with the Outdoor Painters Society.  It was a very windy few days there.  After finding a pretty good place to park the car, my friend Barbara Haviland and I set about painting the scene before us.  The car did an ok job of blocking the wind, but not enough.  I finally had to prop a large rock against the leg of my easel to keep it from blowing over.  Ahhh, the hazards of painting outdoors and the joy too.  Nothing like seeing nature up close.  It’s always surprising how each of us found something appealing and pretty to paint. www.ArtworkbyAnn.com

Blue Crab

                                                          Blue Crab

The painting, Blue Crab, started out as a class demonstration. Well, I kinda liked it more than I thought. After the class, I worked on it some more and tweaked it here and there. The lil sucker looks like it can reach out and pinch ya! My students and I had a really fun time painting "BLUE CRAB".

The painting is a watercolor using a red, yellow and blue. If interested in this little painting, which would look great in a beach house or another fun setting, you can contact me at ahoffpauir26@yahoo.com or ahoffpauir26@gmail.com.

Windy Day - Port Bolivar

A group of artists from the Outdoor Painters Society had a few days of painting in the Port Bolivar, Crystal Beach and Galveston Tx. area recently.  Machita Priest did a fantastic job of putting this paint out together.  Better late than never, but I finally got around to posting one of my paintings.  This scene was painted near the ferry in Port Bolivar.  My friend, Barbara Haviland and I had to use my car as a sheild to block the wind from blowing our art gear all over.  The wind did not stop several people from fishing.  We had a couple of folks stop and chat with us and ask about our art which was exciting to us.  It was a great experience.  I hope I captured the windy look of the scene.www.ArtworkbyAnn.com
